Return to work a bumpy road: a qualitative study on experiences of work ability and work situation in individuals with chronic whiplash-associated disorders

Abstract Background Work resumption is a big challenge in the rehabilitation process for individuals with whiplash-associated disorders (WAD). To better meet needs of WAD their return to work process, more knowledge on experiences and perspectives needed. The aim this study was explore ability situation who participated neck-specific exercise programme chronic WAD. Methods This qualitative has an exploratory descriptive design based data collected through open-ended interviews 17 Data were analysed inductively using conventional content analysis. Results Analysis yielded following five categories related participants’ narratives situation: Return – setbacks bureaucracy ; need be understood by health care professionals, receive treatment plan Individual resources are important consequences reduced Working conditions . Conclusion Individuals often struggle work. Emotional practical support from stakeholders imperative strengthened. Participating programme, including being acknowledged receiving information about WAD, could positively affect sufferers. provided management strategies improve highlights incorporate healthy sustainable thereby making success.
